On my way home from my bike ride, my body refused. My muscles felt "thick" and it felt like I was riding through pudding, even though it was an easy stretch of road. I had gone 19.5 miles and was pretty close to home. I found the nearest shade tree and ate the rest of my gooey, melted Power Bar. I was able to make it home, but I was hardly riding tall in the saddle.

The ride today was more hilly than most. The 88 degrees combined with the humidity and gusty SW winds made it more challenging, I think. I need to find something I can eat or drink (besides chocolaty Power Bars) that can prevent my bonking again. If I had run out of juice out in the middle of nowhere, I am not sure how I would have got myself back to town. Luckily I was passed twice by Sheriff cars. If I needed assistance, they would have helped me.

Wildlife experiences: Plenty of dead things, snakes, snapping turtles, some kind of white striped butterfly that went right in front of a truck. A snowy egret? It looked like a heron, but was totally white. I saw it in the Haskell/Baker Wetlands. Total mileage today=23. Total for the week=60.

I like cliff bars, they are yummy. Also peanut butter has protein, so on like some whole wheat bread or something, so the carbs give you energy, and the protein helps you sustain it. *shrugs* but thats just me.

Clif bars are good. They have something in them that helps the nutrients get absorbed, as I recall. I am thinking about something I can keep in my pocket that I can nibble on continuously and that won't get nasty in the heat. (You should have seen what happened when I tried to bring a banana!)
