Derby Dreams
Feb. 15th, 2009 07:12 pmI attended The KC Roller Warriors Roller Derby bout last night. The name of the event was, "My Bloody Valentine." I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate the 2nd-stupidest holiday on the calendar.
We had so much fun! It reawakened my Derby Dreams. I totally think I could do this. Skate around and block other people, fall down, get up, try to avoid the gal who fell down right in front of you. This is like aikido on wheels. Well, not really, but I think I could use what I have learned in aikido to help me in this. Also, I am an old-school skater. Every Friday night (and some Saturdays) we used to go skating when I was a kid. A few years ago I used to inline skate up and down the bike paths, too. It is great exercise and great fun.
Open tryouts are in October. Meanwhile, I must find a skating rink and begin practicing!
I already have my roller derby name: Pam Demonium. Or maybe Pam Dora. Or Paminator. The possibilities are endless! This sport was made for me. So I may be a little old. That means it is now or never time!
