One of my earliest childhood memories was when my dad took me outside to look at the moon. I was sitting on his shoulders (I think, anyway, this is how I prefer to remember it). He told me there were men walking around up there. I looked and looked, but I couldn't see them. Not that I didn't believe him, I just wanted to see them!

I don't know if this was the first moon landing or not. I would have been two years old. Maybe it was one of the later ones because I doubt I would be able to remember something so vividly from the age of two. I have been crazy about that stuff ever since, though. I remember watching the Apollo-Soyuz rendezvous live on TV. I knew then that the USA and Russia could be friends. I watched the first live Mars pictures from the Viking lander, I watched the first flight of the Enterprise (the space shuttle that rode on the back of the 747). I wish I had been alive to watch the Mercury, Gemini, and early Apollo missions. What an exciting time for space exploration!
