Sometimes you just have to ask
Feb. 22nd, 2007 04:56 pmWe gave our Department Chairs our "dream schedules" for next year. She said she would try to accommodate. I made a realistic request. I didn't try for all upper levels because I lack seniority and we are changing books after next year, anyway. It is best to hold off on new levels until we have the new materials. Otherwise, I would have to start all over creating lessons with the new books.
Next year I will be teaching 3 sections of Spanish 2 and 2 sections of Spanish 1. This is the reverse of what I have this year. When I started at West it was 6 sections of Spanish 1. Things have been improving steadily, I would say. I also asked not to have a class seventh block (the last hour of the day). The kids have been too rowdy and I have not been very patient with them. A veteran teacher suggested that I request not to have a 7th block. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask! I am still crossing my fingers, but I may have gotten my request. I asked the DC how I came to be so fortunate. She said, "You asked." Who knew?
