Home With the Cats
Mar. 27th, 2011 10:18 pmThis has been a homey weekend for me. Even though today outside sucked, I was able to hang out inside, do lesson plans, and read. My cats were with me all day taking turns. Right now the Girl is on my lap as I try to type. The Boy's name is Boris. He told me on Thursday. The Girl still hasn't told me her name.
Today I chopped and thawed everything I will need for a spicy chicken soup I will place in the crock pot tomorrow morning. I am feeling so adult in my home making real food. I don't much care for chopping things, so the food processor I got for Christmas has been the best kitchen accessory for me.
I had to lock Boris in the bedroom while I had the chicken out. He kept jumping on the counter.
The kitties have really made themselves at home here. I enjoy taking care of them and seeing that they seem to appreciate it. It must have been incredibly stressful living in the shelter for months. One of them was there for over a year! Then one day they get put into carriers and let out in some strange house with a stranger. Scary! Every sight, sound, and smell is different. I admire them for how quickly they seem to have adapted. They like my company and hang out in the room with me either on my chair or on my lap.
I no longer come home to an empty house. I think I am even sleeping better these days. I really do feel like I am finally at home, especially now that we may be emerging from winter's icy grip.
