When Did I Become Afraid?
Jun. 1st, 2009 06:11 pmI am seriously considering postponing my Mexico adventure because of the Swine Flu. Yeah, it is just a flu but if I get it there, I figure my chances of surviving it will be lessened. Besides, my parents might freak if I tell them I am going there. Now, I don't have to let their freaking out stop me, but maybe they have good reason...
Then there's the bike thing. I think I have been reluctant to ride because I have been afraid. Someone is struck by a car and killed every year here and this is supposedly one of the more bike-friendly towns! I almost got killed myself summer before last. It's hard to believe that was 2 years ago, but this entry is the proof: Death Visits in a White FedEx Truck June 2007, says it right there. I do think fear plays a part in my reluctance to ride.
I dragged my ass out with the bike and rode 7.7 miles today around 4:00 (that's how long it took me to motivate myself). My chief obstacles were the horrendous sun (which I am not used to yet) and the headwinds. I took it easy this time so I would want to go back. We should get a break from the heat after the storms tomorrow.
