Peril on the bike
Jun. 8th, 2005 01:19 pmOn my way home from my bike ride, my body refused. My muscles felt "thick" and it felt like I was riding through pudding, even though it was an easy stretch of road. I had gone 19.5 miles and was pretty close to home. I found the nearest shade tree and ate the rest of my gooey, melted Power Bar. I was able to make it home, but I was hardly riding tall in the saddle.
The ride today was more hilly than most. The 88 degrees combined with the humidity and gusty SW winds made it more challenging, I think. I need to find something I can eat or drink (besides chocolaty Power Bars) that can prevent my bonking again. If I had run out of juice out in the middle of nowhere, I am not sure how I would have got myself back to town. Luckily I was passed twice by Sheriff cars. If I needed assistance, they would have helped me.
Wildlife experiences: Plenty of dead things, snakes, snapping turtles, some kind of white striped butterfly that went right in front of a truck. A snowy egret? It looked like a heron, but was totally white. I saw it in the Haskell/Baker Wetlands. Total mileage today=23. Total for the week=60.
