Biked to Eudora
Jun. 6th, 2005 02:09 pmThat last hill that sent me back home last week wasn't so bad. It is funny how things in life from a distance can seem bigger than they are. When we get up close to face them, we wonder why we were afraid.
Eudora is one of those small towns that names its streets after trees. I have lived over half my life in Lawrence, and have never really explored Eudora beyond the Kwik Shop when my gas gauge says I might not make it all the way. The town has shaded streets with large trees, lots of mobile homes, and some apartments. I rode by the condemned Eudora High School and took my break at the Kwik Shop, only barely avoiding buying some ice cream treat at Sonic or Dairy Queen.
The wind was 13mph from the southeast, so I got a sort of tailwind coming home. The temperature was only 84 degrees, but with 70% humidity. I was glistening from head to toe when I got home, and my bike clothes were heavy with perspiration. I wore them into the shower to try to rinse them off for next time. Total mileage was 21. I will definitely do this ride again, as it was quite pleasant.
