Tonight I had to teach my teacher. It felt weird. I was covering for another instructor in aikido class and my instructor from years ago has been showing up to practice after a long absence. (She had children and some injuries that kept her from practicing). She has forgotten some things, but she has incredible skills when she is on. I am seeing her more as a human being, I guess. I would like to be able to cling to my illusions and keep her on the pedestal, but alas, it is not to be. I miss having a role model to worship, but this way is better because now we can be friends.

Speaking of teaching, it is that time of the year again. My students at the high school have checked out for summer. Unfortunately, we still have two and a half more weeks of school left! I am not going to fight them. Today we are watching a movie in Spanish. It is a marginally educational activity since we are in the "movie chapter" of the book. After the movie is finished, we start reviewing for Final Exams. We can do fun review games or review worksheets, depending on what the groups can handle. I know I have taught all the important information, so going back over it will be time well-spent no matter what the method.

My schedule for next year has me in 5 classes of Spanish 1. At least it is not SIX like this year. I don't mind teaching Spanish 1, but ONLY Spanish 1? It is the SAME THING over and over and over and over. The material is fun, but often the students are not the ideal language learners. I replaced a teacher who taught only Spanish 1, but I have been teaching Spanish 2 and or 3 for years. I feel under-utilized... At least I only have to do it five times instead of six. That is a step in the right direction.
