Unforeseen Resignation
Jun. 18th, 2011 01:09 amAs often happens over the summer, we had a teacher decide to resign. I don't know the particulars and I really liked her, but so it goes. That means that our district will have to hire a new teacher for the next school year. That also means that I get a real teacher to mentor. My job as Curriculum Coach was until today strictly hypothetical. Now it's the real deal. Even if they hire an experienced teacher, he or she will still need help with how we do things in this district. I have taught here for 10 years now, so I think I have a pretty good idea of how things work. It will be my job to help the new person through the first year. Some of my teacher friends have told me that I will be good in this role. Now we all get to find out.
I have sometimes considered it a curse that I have been reassigned twice, but at each new school I have had a chance to learn from my colleagues. The "curse" is that I never get to build seniority and have been teaching Spanish 1 & 2 all along. The blessing is that I think I have gotten pretty good at teaching Spanish 1 & 2. Who better to coach a newbie who will no doubt be teaching Spanish 1 & 2?
