Folks on facebook were complaining about having a second Snow Day because the roads weren't "that bad."  I know these were mostly parents complaining about having to figure out what to do with their kids.  The roads are bad enough, though, and I am sure the below-zero wind chills had something to do with the school closings.  I did make it out today to the hardware store for snow melt and then to the grocery store.  I didn't slide much, get stuck, or get in an accident if that's what the roads being "not too bad" means.  I don't think they are ever going to plow my street, or even the rest of my neighborhood.  Today's errands gave me some much-needed practice for driving in these conditions, since I doubt we will be given a third Snow Day.  I don't have 4-wheel drive, but front-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes do help a lot.

My truck's battery is so dead that it won't even take a jump start.  It sits in front of my house as useless road art.  I loved to drive that truck around snow-packed roads and parking lots.  I WILL get it running again.  It's just that I get busy and when the weather has been as mild as it has been up until now, the urgency is simply not there.

My nicely shoveled driveway was all covered with snow drifts this morning, but now I seem to have it pretty clear.  I LOVE my southern-facing driveway.  It is actually starting to dry in the sunlight.

For the rest of today I will be watching my Discovery Channel's Life dvds, drinking my traditional First Snow of the Year beer, and reading my book about the history of Islam in Egypt.  I really don't know much about Islam, so I am drawn to the subject.  I think I will also work on my new seating charts, which I have been meaning to do since Sunday.  I am grateful for this extra time and for having enough supplies (and entertainment) to hunker down for a couple of days.
