Tuesday Biking
Jun. 1st, 2005 12:06 amI was so caught up in the business of returning my classroom keys and scanning old photographs that I forgot to document my progress on the bike. I made it almost all the way to Eudora this morning for a ride that was 18 miles round-trip. I didn't go all the way to Eudora because there was a tall hill at the 9-mile point and I was still sore from Sunday's hill-climbing expedition. I have to pace myself. There are still many weeks left to bike greater distances.
I prefer country roads to those paved bike paths because:
1. I feel like a dork unloading my bike from a car to go riding.
2. I can't go as fast on bike paths because of pedestrians and dogs. (I had to take to the grass to avoid a child in the way and my bike is not made for that)
3. If you want to add mileage to the paved path, you just ride it again! My friend rides up and down the Merriam trail until he gets 20-30 miles in. Training for Biking Across Kansas makes folks do strange things.
I spotted another butterfly species. This one was an Eastern Black Swallowtail.. I didn't have my camera with me, though.
Tomorrow's ride will depend on whether or not it is raining. I choose my direction based on which way the wind blows.
