Great weekend, but my hands are sore
Sep. 13th, 2009 10:47 amKashiwaya Sensei's teaching visit was great. I was less than enthusiastic about going this time, but as usual, once I got involved I started learning and enjoying myself. Classes were small this time, only about 8 people, so he was able to cover advanced material. Not that there are "advanced" aikido techniques, but there are advanced ways of doing them better. He threw me several times, which is always a treat. Not only is it cool to feel his power, it is also fun and I learn things from how it feels to be thrown by him.
I am not too beat-up physically from the 3-day seminar (don't tell him). Both of my hands are now sore, though. My left is sore from a non-aikido accident months ago, but my right got crunched by an over-eager student taking the sword away from me yesterday. Incredible how much we use our hands in daily life! This must be a preview of what it might be like being old and arthritic. My mom's hands are starting to show signs of arthritis.
I got to sleep in this morning because we cancel my Sunday morning class following Sensei's visit. This may be the last time I get to sleep in until November 25th, the day before Thanksgiving.
Today will be perfect for being outside. I will take my computer with me and do my lesson plans outside. I also hope to ride my bike or walk. My sore hands make biking difficult because of the braking and shifting gears. I think that could be why I haven't been riding much this year.
