Every year about this time the folks at the dojo go jump in the lake as part of our aikido training. Actually, it is less about martial arts and more about purifying the mind and body. I didn't go in the lake this time because I think I have a bit of a head cold, though I have done it probably a dozen times. The water is cold, but facing the challenge is very empowering. We go in the lake, come out, and go back to the dojo for some meditation and bell-ringing. The bell part is very intensive, everyone ringing to the same rhythm while chanting giving it 100% effort. It is tiring, but energizing, too. I did the meditation and bell part.

After that, I did not do much "productive" today. I guess I need days like these now and again.

I have been exploring the possibility of visiting Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands this summer. Currently I am shopping various options comparing itineraries and prices. The only way to see the Galápagos is with a guide, and there are small ships that hold 16 people that make the trip at regular intervals visiting about 7-8 of the islands. There is much promise of photo ops, snorkling and camaraderie on the ship. I am psyched about going, but trying to figure out the finances. As one might expect, this kind of trip is not cheap! I am going to talk to my parents about it over Thanksgiving and see what they think. They are world travelers, too, so I am interested in their opinion.
