First Day Teaching 2003-2004

Today was the first day of school. It went pretty well. The first day usually does. The students just sit there looking at me for the better part of an hour. I give them an activity where they talk to someone else and we are done.

If anyone wonders if teachers get nervous before the first day of school, the answer is YES! I woke up this morning all fired up and ready to go... It was 2:00AM. I went back to sleep. Next time I woke up, it was 4:00AM. I went back to sleep. I had my clothes laid out. I got there almost an hour early. The first day is special, I think, because it is a chance to start over, which we seldom get in other areas of life.

I get to remember why I do this job. It is a LOT of work, but I also have fun doing it. I may even kinda like the kids. I am forever repeating High School, but it is new to them.

(Truck update- it needed a battery and all is well. I even got to go shopping for new school clothes. I can't start the school year without new clothes, even if it is only one outfit.)
